Pablo Grillo

Today I read with concern, sadness, and deep anger the aftermath of the terrible repression unleashed by the infamous Argentine government and its violent Minister Bullrich on the pensioners' march.

They repressed the elderly and the people who supported them, arresting more than a hundred people for gathering to exercise their freedom of protest. The forces of the government repression planted weapons, left patrol cars unlocked and without officers, and provoked riots at every turn.

They attacked the protesters with excessive force harming elderly people and children leaving school, tortured young people, detained for hours without access to water or bathrooms, and crammed them into federal police trucks.

At this moment, the photojournalist Pablo Grillo (a photographer who was recording the events) is fighting for his life in the hospital. He was hit by a tear gas grenade that was aimed at him, against all rules of use.

The government and its minister lied in the friendly media, trying to justify the unjustifiable. We know them; they are the opposite of what they claim to be. They are violent and evil; they don't care about their neighbours.

I’d like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people as the traditional owners and true sovereigns of the land where I live. I like to pay my respects to elders past and present. Sovereignty has not been ceded, treaties have not been signed.

I like to extend the acknowledgement to other traditional owners in Australia, Latin America and other parts of the world.
